Checkbook
for Excel (Version 5.2)
Microsoft has made major changes to the user interface
and file formats in Excel 2007. The Checkbook for Excel menu and toolbar
can now be found on the Add-Ins tab of the Tool Ribbon along the top of the
Excel window. The latest version of Checkbook for Excel is fully compatible
with Excel 2007. Click

Be sure to install the latest service pack and patches
for your version of Microsoft Excel. It's easy to do and will make all your
Office applications more stable, secure and error free. Just select Help - Check
for Updates from the Excel menu or go to

Checkbook for Excel and the Palm Checkbook Companion
have been separated into two separate downloads to minimize the download time
for Checkbook for Excel.
Checkbook for Excel is a full featured software application written for
Microsoft Excel and is completely compatible with Excel 97/2000/XP/2003/2007. The Checkbook for Excel
download provides a fully functional version
of program that can be used for 30 days for free. Registration
is required to continue using it beyond the 30 day trial period. (Once the 30
day trial period has expired, entering a valid registration code will
permanently revive the program to its full functionality.) This version (5) is a major upgrade of the popular
Version 4. It includes a host of new features and enhancements to simplify your

Checkbook for Excel Release History
We first released the program in December of 1995 and have strived to improve
it for over a decade. Unlike most major software companies, we provide a complete
history of major and minor releases as well as any issues that were resolved with
their release.
Version 5.2 provides the following enhancements and fixes to version
5.1f.
- Adds date selection calendar for entering dates in all phases of the
program.
- Fixed a run-time error that occurred when using the "Mark Transaction
Cleared" and "Skip to Next Uncleared Transaction" functions when a report
was created and displayed in the active ledger without first removing the
active ledger filter.
- Improved functionality of the "Mark Transaction Cleared" and "Skip to
Next Uncleared Transaction" functions.
- Eliminated a problem with the Report function that kept it from
working properly when used without first removing the active ledger filter
after a previous report was created and displayed in the active ledger .
- Widened the "Payment To/Deposit From" column on the Report sheet to
accommodate wider entries without text wrapping.
- Provided additional protections to the Reports sheet.
Version 5.1f provided the following enhancements and fixes to version
5.1e.
- Fixed a problem with the "Edit Transaction" button text changing
colors in Excel 2007 when using the Options function to change color
schemes.
- Fixed a problem with the Bank/Institution name on the Ledger being
formatted incorrectly under some circumstances.
- Eliminated invalid error message about Excel 5.0/95 Menu Editor
Customizations when converting to the new Excel 2007 file format.
Version 5.1e provides the following enhancements and fixes to version
5.1d.
- Fixed a problem with the Print Preview option not working properly
when printing checks in Excel 2007.
- Fixed a problem with the buttons on the dialog box being out of place
when in the Check Printing Setup dialog box.
- Fixed a problem with an extraneous comma printing on checks when the
print address on checks options is selected and there is no address to
print.
Version 5.1d provides the following enhancements and fixes to version
5.1c.
- Fixed a problem with leading zeros on Zip Codes not appearing in
program dialog boxes and when printing checks.
- Improved compatibility with Excel 2007 and the context sensitive help
feature.
- Fixed minor issue with context sensitive help feature.
Version 5.1c provided the following enhancements and fixes to version
5.1b.
- Fixed a run-time error that occurred when running the program with
the Palm Checkbook Companion under Windows Vista.
- Fixed a run-time error when importing data from some Checkbook for
Excel Version 3 files.
Version 5.1b provided the following enhancements and fixes to version 5.1a.
- Updated the program help file to the newer HTML help format.
- Improved compatibility with Windows Vista.
Version 5.1a provides the following enhancements and fixes to version 5.1.
- Improves compatibility with Excel 2007.
- Adds the ability to import additional non-standard QIF credit card
transactions.
- Fixes a problem with the "Import Data from a Previous Version"
function not importing Ledger data under some unusual circumstances.
- Fixes a problem with the "Archive Checkbook" function not working
properly under some unusual circumstances.
Version 5.1 provided the following enhancements and fixes to version 5.0d.
- Added the ability to limit reports to displaying selected categories
only.
- Limited the Tax Summary report to selected categories only.
- Provided a progress bar to reports that take a long time to generate.
- Added the ability to hide the split transactions on the Report sheet.
- Fixed an obscure problem with a false warning about the split amount
not matching the transaction amount when editing a transaction with split
categories amounts that do not match the values for a matching transaction
account.
- Fixed a problem with Ledger formatting colors when importing data
from a previous version.
Version (5.0d) provided the following enhancements and fixes to version
5.0c.
- Fixes Run-time Error 380 - "Could not set the ListIndex Property ..."
error that sometimes occurred when clicking the Deposit tool and then typing
into the "Payment To/Deposit From" field.
Version 5.0c provided the following fixes and enhancements to Version 5.0b

Version 5.0b provided the following fixes and enhancements to Version 5.0a
- Fixes several problems with importing incorrectly formatted QIF
files.
- Fixes incorrect transaction type in dialog box when editing
transactions for "EFT" and "Withdrawal" transaction types.
Version 5.0a provided the following fixes and enhancements to Version 5.0
- Fixes a problem with categories sorting incorrectly when adding a new
category.
- Fixes a problem with the Import Data from a Previous Version function
that causes a run-time error under some circumstances.

Version 4.2 provided the following fixes and enhancements to Version 4.1b
- Adds feature to automatically scroll the ledger to display the most
recent
transaction as transactions are entered into the Ledger.
- Adds a feature to display the Account Information dialog box when the
Edit
Transaction button is clicked if a cell in the top "Original Balance" row is
selected. (Previously only the Account Information tool would display this
dialog box.)
- Corrects a problem with categories changing when a different
transaction type
is selected
- Corrects problem with the Archive Checkbook function.
- Traps accidental text entries in Transaction amount.
- Traps accidental text entries in the check number field.
Version 4.1b provided the following fixes and enhancements to Version 4.1a
- Fixes an unlikely invalid category warning when entering transactions.
- Provides a digital code signature to insure the proper origin and
security of all the program macros.
Version 4.1a provided the following fixes to Version 4.1
- Fixes run-time error when importing QIF files in Excel 97. This problem
did not affect Excel 2000 or higher.
Version 4.1 provided the following fixes and enhancements to Version 4.0c
- Provides improved compatibility with additional non-conforming .QIF files
generated by some Unix/Linux servers.
- Traps several errors that can result from incorrect Transaction Account
and Category data entry.
- Removes the Ledger filter so that all transactions are shown after the Print
Ledger function is used to print a limited range of transactions.
Version 4.0c provided the following fix to version 4.0b.
- Corrected a problem that caused several spaces to be padded onto the
end of the Category on transactions imported from your Palm device. This
prevented the transaction from being summarized on the Ledger Summary and
Report Summary since the extra spaces kept it from being properly
recognized. To fix your existing data, use the Edit Transaction function to
select the proper version of the category. When you select the category from
the Category dropdown list, scroll down the list until you locate the
correct unpadded version of the category and select it.
Version 4.0b provided the following enhancements to version 4.0a.
- Provided import compatibility with some non-conforming .QIF files.
- Fixed run-time error that occurred when the New Ledger function was invoked
while the Ledger Report sheet was active.
- Fixed run-time error that occurred when importing .QIF file to a Ledger that
had no account information.
Version 4.0a provided the following enhancements to version 4.0.
- Fixed problem with incorrect amounts and #VALUE error being displayed when
printing checks.
- Fixed problem with being prompted to save the Checkbook for Excel file even when no changes were made.
Version 4.0 provided the following enhancements to version 3.5c.
- Provides the ability to split transactions across up to ten different categories.
- Provides the ability to add unlimited income and expense categories.
- Provides the ability to designate categories as tax related and reference
them to tax forms and tax worksheets.
- Provides the ability to add and store address information and print addresses
on checks.
- Provides the ability to import data from Quicken Interchange Format (.QIF)

Version (3.5c) provided the following fixes and/or enhancements to
version 3.5b.
- Fixed a run-time error 1004 that occurred when setting income and
expense categories. This problem only occurred on some Excel XP
installations.
Version (3.5b) provided the following fixes and/or enhancements to
version 3.5a.
- Removed all implicit Object references. These could cause Excel 97
installations that had not been updated with all the service packs to crash
on occasion.
- Changed the dialog box date format to display using the short date
format for the computer's regional settings. This was done to solve date
formatting and sorting problems for our international users who are using
non-English and non-U.S. English regional settings on their computers.
Version (3.5a) provided the following fixes and/or enhancements to
version 3.5.
- Fixed problem with some Excel installations that caused a "Compile
error in hidden module" error when attempting to enter a transaction.
Version (3.5) provided the following fixes and/or enhancements to version
3.1b.
- Addition of Checkbook Companion Palm OS application with
synchronization to Checkbook for Excel.
- Addition of Ledger Summary and Charting Feature.
- Addition of Ledger Filtering Query function.
- Addition of option to control check printing default.
- Fixed problem with being prompted to save the Checkbook for Excel file
even when no changes were made.
- Fixed problem with Cancel button not functioning on charting function.
Version (3.1b) provided the following fixes and/or enhancements to version 3.1a.
- Fixes a problem on Excel 97 installations that caused a VBA runtime type
mismatch error when using the Checkbook Options function when there is no data on the Report sheet.
This is not an issue in Excel 2000.
Version (3.1a) provided the following fixes and/or enhancements to version 3.1.
- Fixed a problem on some Excel 97 installations that caused a VBA error in
ThisWorkbook module when opening the Checkbook for Excel file. This is not
an issue in Excel 2000.
This version (3.1) provides the following fixes and/or enhancements to
version 3.0.
- Fixes a problem with the Checkbook graphic in the Welcome dialog box that caused
Excel to become unstable or crash on some systems.
