Approach Shot Analysis

The reporting features in Golf Tracker for Excel provide a multitude of data and statistics that allow you to view and assess the various aspects of your golf game. The Approach Shot Analysis function lets you dig deeper into all the approach shots that were included in your most recent report. There is no aspect of your game that impacts your scoring more than your approach shots.

You can view the Approach Shot Analysis worksheet by clicking the Approach Analysis button on the Main Menu sheet or by simply clicking on the Approach Shot Analysis sheet tab along the bottom of the Excel window. The worksheet updates automatically to reflect the data from your most recent report and contains two tables with different breakdowns of the data. The Approach Shots by Club table shows a breakdown of approach shots by which club was used and the Approach Shots by Distance table shows approach shots by the distance to the hole from where they originated.

The Approach by Club table shows the number of shots, the average distance to the hole, and a percentage breakdown of where the shots came to rest for each club. Each cell in the Clubs column has a drop-down list that lets you select any club from your bag. This lets you customize the table to show shots from any of the clubs in your bag. (You can change the clubs available in your bag using the Program Options button on the Main Menu sheet.)

You can limit the table data to show only shots originating from specific locations using the drop-down box in the red shaded "Approaches From" field. For example, selecting Fairway from the drop-down field will limit the data to show only shots that originated from the fairway. In addition, the last two columns show the number of shots that came to rest on the green within 20 feet of the pin. You can change the distance from 20 feet to a different distance by entering a different value in the red shaded "On Green Within" field in the upper right hand corner of the table and the last two columns will update accordingly. Changes made in the red shaded "Approach From" and "On Green Within" fields affects the data in both the Approach Shots by Club and Approach Shots by Distance tables.

The Approach Shot by Distance table shows the same data as the Approach Shot by Club table except it's broken down by the distance to the pin from where the shot originated. You can change the distances in the Shots >= and Shots < columns by entering new values in those cells. This lets you customize the table to view the distance ranges that best show your approach shots.

Once you've customized the tables to show the data you want, you can use the Export button to export the worksheet to a separate file and save it for future reference.
